Today’s generation of learners are social beings who communicate, collaborate, create, co-create and connect using online technologies. This Net Generation, or Net Gens as Tapscott (2008) defines them, are a generation whose modus operandi is networking where they can let their voices be heard in the crowd. They want to be active learners rather than consumers of information. Wallwisheris a collaborative tool that lets students be prosumers rather consumers.

What is Wallwisher?
Wallwisher is an Internet application that allows students to post their thoughts on a common topic using electronic sticky notes on a shared digital wall. Students can type a maximum of 160 characters per electronic sticky note that can incorporate an image, audio or video using the appropriate web address link.

Why use Wallwisher?
Wallwisher provides a collaborative area online where students can contribute to learning anonymously or authored. Students’ contributions can be made synchronously (during lecture inputs) and displayed immediately to the whole cohort or asynchronously (anytime, anyplace, anywhere) with the added bonus of students being able to access the collaborative area after the input to assimilate the information gathered. How To Use Wallwisher
The following provides a quick start guide to using Wallwisher.

1. Go to Wallwisher and create an account by selecting the Login/Register link at the top right of the page. wallwisher_login.JPG .

( If using with a class or group of students it is best to set up a class/group account rather than a private account. The benefits of doing this means that students can use the account to place their contributions in a secure environment rather than having to moderate comments which looses the immediate effect of posts when wanting instant feedback.)
2. Create a new account using the Register section.


3. You will be prompted to create your first wall. Select the Click here option.


4. You can now customise your wall as follows:

(i) Preferences - choose a name for your wall and decide who will be able to view your wall. If you make private then you will need to share the account with those you wish to be able to view your wall. If you choose 'everyone' you can still moderate the wall by deciding who can post sticky notes in the next option. The 'everyone' option leaves this open to anyone on the internet to post a sticky whereas the 'Only Me' allows only the people who have the username and password to the account to post stickies. The benefits of the later makes the wall more secure so that random comments from strangers will not appear but the downside is that you need to share the account. This option is suitable for where you might want instant feedback without students having to login where you can then reset this option to 'Only Me' after the input to ensure no random comments are generated.
(ii) Theme - Select the theme you would like your wall to be displayed on the internet. Remember this can be changed if required.

(iii) Heading & Description - You can now customise the Heading by selecting an image that is already available or uploading your own. The title and subtitle should be entered at this stage.
